PBCEC April Update (important and urgent info) The Everglades Uprising continues!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
County Commission Hearing on Rock Mining in the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA), this Thursday! April 24, 9:30am at County Chambers, 301 North Olive Ave. Please spread the word!!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next PBCEC meeting, May 5, 7pm at the Friends Quaker Meeting House, 823 North ´A´ street.
Directions from I-95: exit at 10th Ave, go east, turn south at ´A´ street one block and half, park behind the building. This will NOT be a dinner meeting. Please eat before meeting.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The PBCEC is still working in conjunction with the Everglades Earth First! group to monitor and, ultimately stop the construction of the West County Energy Center & its Gulfstream gas pipeline. And we need YOUR support!! Here is a list of some things you can do to get involved:

*Plan a fundraiser for our efforts (we expect $20-40,000 in expenses for our legal and direct action efforts. This may sound like a lot, but is very achievable when split among all of us in South Florida who care about the future of the earth.. It is peanuts next to the cost of NOT stopping this power plant and the destruction it will accomodate)

*Host an educational event in your community (despite thousands of leaflets and posters and dozens of news stories, there are still people who don't know what we are up against here; we have speakers available for schools, churches, synagogues, neighborhood associations, etc.)

*Volunteer with administrative tasks (most specifically, we are looking to create a database of our contacts and a rapid response phone-tree list to mobilize people for meetings and protests on short notice)

For more info or help with following up on these ideas, contact panagioti 561-588-9666 or email PBCEnviroCoalition@gmail.com

FPL PROTEST TRIALS ARE COMING UP! Court was scheduled to begin April 29, but the dates are now being shuffled around, so stay tuned...

GULFSTREAM PIPELINE MONITORING CAMP HAS BEGUN! Get involved..
There are several access points by foot, bike and canoe to witness the local destruction that is needed to continue to global travesty of the Fossil Fool Regime and its Energy Empire... If you are interested in joining a weekly monitoring tour (the REAL Eco-Tourism!), please get in touch asap. We will be scheduling them throughout April and May. Assistance with transportation and supplies is always needed.

We had a success in our challenge of the gopher tortoise relocation permit for the pipeline!

More support and encouragement from the Sunday Post (4/13/08):
¨Kudos to ... Earthfirst and Palm Beach County's Environmental Coalition. I applaud their actions on behalf of our planet in the April 4 article "Environmental activists send in the clowns." If our voice comes in the form of getting arrested via civil disobedience, media attention or dressing up like a clown, then so be it. Kudos to all of you. If I had known about "Fossil Fool's Day," I would have taken my clown costume out of the closet and joined in the "fun."
